The post-mortem histology of (a) autoimmune adrenalitis and (b) tuberculosis adrenalitis in patients who died of Addison's disease is shown. (a) The adrenal capsule is markedly thickened, and the surviving cortex consists of scattered hypertrophied adrenocortical cells that are heavily infiltrated with Iymphocytes.
